Hi my names is Ed Matthews the owner of Freshwater Fisheries, here is a bit about myself, I suppose it all started with a love for angling spending time by water and enjoying being outside, so why not try to make that my work life?

After leaving school I went and studied fisheries management at college for 3 years and on passing my college coarse I was offered a job at one of my work experience locations working on a trout farm in north Yorkshire, this was an enjoyable and educating experience but only lasted a few months as I was then fortunate enough to land a job with the Environment Agency as a fisheries Officer, at 19 years old I was the youngest water bailiff to be taken on, I worked with some fantastic people in the EA and learnt a lot with fisheries advisories, stock surveys and fisheries enforcement all everyday work. I worked for the EA for 14 years, with the opportunity to take on some lakes and the chance at growing my own stock I decided to have a go at working for myself and things have just grown from there. I still enjoy my own angling choosing to target specimen fish of all species.

Freshwater Fisheries came about due to the growth in the business, I was in the position where I wanted to pull my portfolio of fisheries and the fish farm together to make it easier for people to understand what we do, to date I run 4 fisheries, Sutton, Esnes, Dawford and the Sitch (which I run with R.H. Fisheries and can be found on their website). I also wanted to bring an online booking platform to Dawford along with the guest sessions on Sutton and Esnes. The business continues to grow and I am always looking for new exciting projects. Feel free to look through the website and contact me should you have any questions.
